Summary0001374: External Monitoring Devices
DescriptionLooking to add extra monitoring devices.

Research has found a few USB based I2C hosts, but one device seems least expensive, easy to build, easy to develop for and even easy to purchase off the internet.

Any plans for support for this or anything like this? My GA-EP45-DS4, while a wonderful board, only supports speed control on one fan which is just not enough. I was planning on building a USB to I2C bridge myself but the Tiny USB I2C looks like it might be a lot cheaper than what I was planning on using.

I bought a few OSIF USB Master devices, so that I could test and possible make up a few different I2C slave devices, but so far, I have not yet been able to make any slave devices because I have not been able to track down and purchase and I2C chips in the country (ZA) that I am in ... Currently looking overseas to see if I can ship anything in. When I have a running system, under Linux, I will send a work OSIF and I2C slave device to Alfredo Milani Comparetti, hoping that if he has a system in hand, that he might find time to add support for it.

Try requesting some samples from Maxim. I got three MAX6660's from them which should do the job just fine; you can't get them in DIP but SparkFun sells an SSOP to DIP adapter that works just fine (sku BOB-00498).
